Maryland Fleet Week sails into Baltimore

There’s a lot to love about Fleet Week sailing into Baltimore.

BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- Cara Ceo came into Baltimore as the Bosun's Mate aboard the Schooner Liberty Clipper for Maryland Fleet Week.

"I'm third in command," says Ceo, who tells FOX45 she hopped on board one of these traditional ships about three years ago and never looked back. "I'm sailing around the world with 13 other people on a boat like this... it's basically like being on vacation all the time."

Twenty schooners will be in Canton for Fleet Week and will participate in the Parade of Sails Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Inner Harbor. Only six had arrived by Monday, as many delayed their arrivals due to Hurricane Matthew.

"You always have to think about weather, especially in boats like this," says Ceo.

Thursday the Schooners will race roughly 100 miles, leaving Baltimore and heading down the Chesapeake Bay. The level of competition in the race is steep for some, but perhaps not for the Liberty Clipper.

"We have a reputation to uphold of coming in dead last. But we'll finish," says Ceo. "We're excited to be here, and we'll be sad to leave."
