Family Heartbroken| 7-year-old hit and killed walking home from school
BALTIMORE (WBFF)-- The family of a 7-year-old girl hit and killed while walking home from school Thursday, is speaking out.
Natasha Newman, a 2nd grader at Sandalwood Elementary School died after police say she darted in front of a work van.
It happened across from Sandalwood Elementary School on South Marlyn Avenue.
The 7-year-old girl had crossed the street and was standing on the sidewalk to one side of the driveway entry to a residential area, said police. Her brothers were standing on the sidewalk on the other side of the driveway.
The girl was seriously injured and taken to Franklin Square Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her grandmother tells FOX45 that the 2nd grader who wanted to be a fashion designer had the most beautiful smile.
Family members say the child had returned from a school trip to the Maryland Zoo Thursday.
Her grandmother says about her grandchildren, "They're my whole world..." she says the family has a permanent hole in their hearts.
A GoFundMe has been created to help assist the family with funeral expenses.
A candlelight vigil has been scheduled for Friday evening at 6pm.
