KAMENETZ FUNERAL | Jill Kamenetz had told him, 'This campaign is killing you'
PIKESVILLE, Md. (WBFF) - Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz's wife, Jill, suggested at his funeral that the gubernatorial race might have taken a toll on her husband.
"I said, 'Kevin, this campaign is killing you,'" said Jill Kamenetz at Friday's funeral, which was packed with friends, family and politicians.
Hundreds of mourners filed into Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, many with political connections, from Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh to U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and U.S. Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger.
The most emotional moments during the funeral service had nothing to do with politics, though. It was how Kevin Kamenetz was a strong family man.
His oldest son, Carson, described how his dad will be missed.
Carson Kamenetz said: “I hope he died knowing he was my role model and knew I loved him endlessly.”
Jill also spoke about her husband who she described as her “rock." They had been married 19 years.
Jill also issued this public statement: "I’d like to express my deepest appreciation to everyone who has reached out to our family at this profoundly sad time. We are in a state of shock at our sudden, unimaginable loss. Kevin was my closest friend and the smartest person I’ve ever met. He was absolutely devoted to our boys and me. He dedicated his life to public service because he believed passionately that government can and should make a positive difference in people’s lives, especially children and those who are most vulnerable."
