WASHINGTON (WJLA) - The Smithsonian's National Zoo is honoring #NationalMilkDay by bringing light to its largest collection of exotic animal milk in the world, the zoo tweeted Thursday.

At the National Zoo's Exotic Animal Milk Depository, the milk is used to "learn about mammal nutrition."

In a video posted to its Twitter page, the zoo explains that the milk is collected from around the world by animals trained to voluntarily give the life-saving substance.

Baby hippo Fiona at the Cincinnati Zoo, who was born six weeks early, is one of the many animals in captivity that received formulated milk from the zoo's milk depository.
