BALTIMORE, Md. (WBFF)---- The Gilman School is the final MIAA school that will not play St. Frances in football for the 2018 season. St. Frances will move to an independent football program.

The Panthers program is run by Biff Poggi, who used to coach at Gilman.

Gilman made the decision today. The athletic department released a statement, below, through Headmaster Henry P. A. Smyth and Co-Directors of Athletics Lori E. Bristow and T. Russell Wrenn.

"St. Frances Academy Co-Head Coach Biff Poggi recently announced that the Panthers varsity football team will play an independent, national schedule in the 2018 fall season. We wish the St. Frances players and coaches well as they build on the program’s and Coach Poggi’s efforts to transform the lives of young men through a nationally competitive football program. We will not compete against St. Frances in football this fall. Our football team looks forward to competing in the MIAA A Conference this fall."
