Gessler is a multi-media journalist for Fox45 since 2012. His high school media teacher Rob Perks taught him how to shoot and edit video and he hasn’t stopped since.
Paul covers general assignment news for Fox45, but loves featuring interesting characters with unique stories, like Abu the Flutemaker.
WBFF is Paul’s third TV station, previously working as a reporter at WBBH-WZVN in Fort Myers, Fla. and a reporter, producer, and sports anchor at WSAZ in Huntington, W.Va.
Paul has earned five NATAS Capital Emmy Awards, six Associated Press awards, dozens of NPPA recognitions, and a regional Edward R. Murrow Award.
He has volunteered for the Maryland YMCA as Press Director for its Youth & Government Program and is an adjunct journalism professor at the University of Maryland-College Park.
His most memorable assignment came in 2011 when he traveled to Haiti for a five-part series tracking Naples-based charity Hope for Haiti’s work after the country’s 7.0-magnitude earthquake.
He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. and a Masters Degree in Communication from Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. Paul is a native of West Virginia and a fan of the Washington Redskins, Wizards, Capitals, and New York Mets.
